Varna (Societal Class)
Let's see how the societies are divided into 4 societal classes (varnas).
I created the 4 classes based on natural tendencies and/or innate actions.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Four divisions were created by me according to the characteristics and actions of them as the doers.
Know me as an inexhaustible non-doer, though.
The four classes are distinguished based on their innate actions.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Braahman, Kshetriya, Vaishya and Shudra are, O subduer of enemies (O Arjun) distinguished
by characters of their own natural actions born of the (three) characteristics.
Self-restrain, austerity, honesty, knowledge, piety etc are the actions pertaining to Braahmans.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Tranquility, self-restraint, austerity, purity, endurance, honesty, knowledge,
comprehension and piety are the actions, born of their own nature, of the Braahmans.
Valor, agility, perseverence, charities etc are the Kshetriya actions.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Valor, agility, perseverance, dexterity and not absconding from the battle,
charities, and disposition to the god are the actions, born of their own
characters, of the Kshetriyas.
Agriculture and commerce are actions of Vaishyas while service and dispatch are actions of Shoodras.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Farming, cow-protection, commerce are the actions born of the Vaishya nature.
Also, service is the action born of the Shoodra nature.
Dying performing own's duties, even imperfectly, is better than performing others' duties perfectly.
Lord Krishna says to Arjun:
Performing one's own imperfect duties is better than doing other's duties well.
Death in performing one's own duties is better than performing other's formidable duties.
